When I begin a work, the particular area of my conscious thought in the present or immediate past has a profound influence on the colors and images that appear before me. The Ancient Earth series was begun at a time when I was concentrating on my interest in archaeology...which, itself happened as a result of exploring the Native American part of my heritage. Within this context, my subconscious reaches for shapes and colors with which to explore truths I feel are always just below the surface. Sometimes a single piece becomes a series when revisited time and again in this search.
