MIXING PAINTS

No matter what the discipline, the fundamental goal of any artist is to have their art displayed to the widest possible audience.
Local painter Tibor Murany therefore has every reason to be beside himself.
Self professed “thirty-year overnight success story” Murany has been invited to exhibit his work at the International Biennale of Contemporary Arts in Florence, Italy.
The Biennale is one of the biggest and most prestigious arts exhibitions in the world.
Celebrating the cultural diversity, the Biennale features over 891 artists from 72 countries.
Murany a 54 years old Blue Mountains artist will be one of a few Australian artists ever to have work showcased at the glamorous event.
Murany who has painted over 360 paintings to date and sold most of them at shows to local and Sydney collectors, says the Biennale is by far the biggest thing he has ever been involved with.
“It’s not just any ordinary Biennale, it’s the Florence Biennale. Everyone who’s anyone in art is going to be there- the gallery owners, collectors, the mega rich, counts and countesses,” he says.
The Biennale is enormous and the whole world is represented. And the most prestigious judges from around the wild will judge the winner.
An International Scientific Committee selects the Biennale artists without prejudice towards style, school or trend. They are chosen for their innovative and creative work, demonstrated via various media of painting, sculpture, graphic art, installation art or photography, to name a few.
It’s being there that is everything to me, says Murany. “Being a part of it is more important than winning or loosing.”
Murany attributes his success to his originality and passion.
“My work is very dynamic, very colourful. I believe I paint different and new art. I am interested in reflections and the transformation of colours and the whole process of it.
I am going in a totally new artistic direction.
But it’s a lot of hard work. Talent is 95% hard work. You can have the vision but you have to do a lot of work to turn that vision into a reality.
Murany, whose work is inspired by local ambiance, hopes his success will promote the western Sydney and the Blue Mountains arts scene and inspire others.
We have some wonderful talent in the area and this will hopefully not only encourage them to achieve, but also give them the recognition they deserve.
The Florence International Biennale of Contemporary Arts runs from December 6 to December 14, 2003.
