BIENNALE ARTISTS TO SHOW IN LEURA

Blue Mountains artists Tibor Murany and Hilary Pollock were recent exhibitors at the International Biennale of Contemporary Arts in Florence, Italy.

This biennale is part of the United Nations Dialogue among Civilisations.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan says:
“Artists have a special role to play in the global struggle for peace. At their best artists speaks not only to people, they speak for them. Art is a weapon against ignorance and hatred and an agent for public awareness. Art opens new doors for learning, understanding and peace among people and nations.”

Hilary and Tibor are maintaining their professional relationship with forthcoming exhibitions at Gallery Lane in Leura, opening on Saturday, July 10 and following that at the Bondi Pavilion in Sydney.

Tibor’s new series is entitled Fish Bowl and features fish in aquariums, but with a typically Tibor slant: observing fish in their bowls Tibor noticed that most looked sad and many were even ugly. He decided to paint fish which are beautiful, colourful and in such a way that when you stand in a room full of his fish paintings, you feel as though you are the one in the fish bowl!

Hilary Pollock has been painting and exhibiting for 25 years, the last 12 in the Blue Mountains. Her new series is of small abstracts exploring the connections between colour and shape.
Hilary Pollock and Tibor Murany’s paintings go on show at Gallery lane Leura, from July 9 to 25, 2004
